Kids transform abandoned hotel into dog paradise.
Everyone deserves a loving family, but foster kids Andi (Emma Roberts) and Bruce (Jake T. Austin) have been placed with a flaky couple who care more for their aspiring rock careers than their foster children. Even though Andi and Bruce's mischievous tendencies repeatedly get them into trouble, the siblings are essentially good kids who care deeply for one another and their secretly adopted dog Friday. After a close call with the local pound, the kids end up searching for Friday in an abandoned old hotel where they find several stray dogs seeking shelter. The kids' compassion for the homeless dogs compels them to begin caring for the strays and they soon join forces with three other local kids to take in strays from across the city. Bruce is a clever inventor whose innovative gadgets ensure top-notch care and constant entertainment for all the dogs (as well as a multitude of laughs from the audience). Unfortunately, Bruce's and Andi's devotion to the dogs eventually causes them to pass up what may be their last chance for a better foster home. When the police storm the hotel and take all the dogs to the pound, the kids make a daring attempt to rescue the dogs that will likely land them in separate group homes. Can social worker Bernie (Don Cheadle) somehow convince the authorities, and perhaps a loving family, that the children were just doing what was right?
Hotel for Dogs is a funny family film based on Lois Duncan's book of the same name and is appropriate for most ages 5 and older in spite of its PG rating for mild thematic elements, language, and some crude humor.

| Maybe I'm taking this movie too seriously, however, the more I see it, the more I'm just not sure about it. Bruce and Andi are kids going through a hard time. They hate their foster family and have taken on a huge group of dogs and are hiding them in what becomes called the "Hotel for Dogs." Sounds fairly benign, I suppose. However, the lengths these kids go to in this movie to save these dogs seems a bit much. Breaking and entering and assault are only two of the crimes they commit (and belive me there is more done in this movie in the name of saving their "family") and it makes me wonder if we are making too light of what they do. I would feel horrible if I were these children, losing their dogs like that had to be heartbreaking, however, that their combined efforts brought them to the conclusion that it is acceptable to commit crimes and become felons, well...I had a hard time with that. As my child was watching I got to wondering what message we were sending to her regarding following the law, accepting things we truly cannot change, etc. Yes, it's a kids movie, and kids love dogs and kids may not view it as we do, but that's what bothers me the most. I don't know what she took away from that movie really. What lesson did she learn? Was it that doing whatever you want to get what you want is ok? Although there were other lessons offered, such as the strength of family, I'm not sure that is what she will take away from it. The other lesson was far to exciting and and much more obvious to a child, I think. As I said in the beginning, I'm just not sure about this one, and maybe you won't be either. If you want fluffy dogs for your kids to watch, try something else. |

I am one of those 'mean mommies' that does not allow anything not rated 'G' into my house where the tender ears of my 5 and 3 year olds can pick up on things they shouldn't. So my first reaction was to filter this movie without a second doubt. But my children snuck in and it had them mesmerized within 5 seconds. I was pleasantly surprised at hw much I enjoyed this movie as well as my boys.
Though the humor in the movie went over my kids heads, it was neither too raunchy or racist. It sends a subliminal message that science can be cool and I really appreciated the strong message it sent about how much work and time goes into owning a dog. As someone who has volunteered in animal shelters, I have seen too many dogs dropped off by people that weren't ready or didn't do enough research.
Any movie that is family friendly and can keep my kids sitting the whole time gets 5 stars in my book. And I will face the (tickling) wrath of 2 kids if I don't rate this movie 5 stars for the cute dogs. (Especially the pug and poodle since we are owners of both!) |

| I ended up purchasing this movie as a Christmas gift for my friend and her kids. Even though I had not seen it at the time of purchase I knew that the family had watched it numerous times on Video on Demand... paying $5 each time to watch it. That meant it had to be very good for mom and dad to continue to permit the kids to rent it (plus the mom, my friend, absolutely loved the movie as well). I was able to watch it after the holidays had settled. It was an adorable movie about 2 siblings in the foster system and their dog (who they have hidden from their present and previous foster parents over a 3 year period). It shows that we all need a family, and this includes animals... that is how the hotel for dogs came to be... finding strays before the ended up in the pound. There will be tears so have kleenex on hand. |

I'm a major dog lover, so when I saw that a movie like Hotel for Dogs came out I rushed to go and see it.
Hotel for Dogs is about two orphans finding an abandoned hotel and saving all the stray dogs in town from the pound. They run into a few conflicts but manage to get past them with help from others!
Hotel for Dogs is for sure a good movie, filled with sad moments and happy moments. Amazing family movie!!! I give it four and a half stars!
My favorite scene or the funniest is when the two adults fall into the entire nasty dog poop!! This is very nasty!! Luckily, they were in bags.
The movie crew and cast did an amazing job dog training all the dogs. Training them to walk where they need to and when to bark or whine was just wonderful!!
This movie really brings out the dog lover in people. It also shows how SOME shelters treat dogs and other poor animals! It really made me take a step back and think about the poor animals and what they go through in this world!
WONDERFUL movie is all I have left to say!!!
