I purchased this as a present for a bass playing friend of mine a few days ago. And, he just called to tell me he loved this disc!
First, the trio performances are excellent. Especially Gary Moore's (who my friend was not familiar with).
Second, the instructional interludes are very informative. Following a performance, Jack sits down with you for an amiable chat about what he was playing and how he played it. He also interjects a few anecdotes and musings about his Cream days and their songs. Including how he and Ginger considered themselves jazz musicians, and Cream a jazz band. They just never got around to telling Clapton. (Probably a good thing). Also, insights into subject matter of songs like NSU (in case you did not know).
Lastly, this recording was made around 1998. So, it precedes the agony and ecstasy of the 2005 reunion.
If you are a rhythm-loving musician that enjoys the Cream or Jack Bruce, I think you will really love this disc.
Highly recommended. |

Jack Bruce gives you insight on how he plays the bass lines on all songs throught the video.
He is then in the studio with legendary blues great guitarist Gary Moore playing all the songs that Jack reviews.
The only problem I have with the DVD is that they cut away from Gary Moore while he is into some solos to show Jack. I'm a huge Gary Moore fan but it is Jack's DVD. There is plenty of video of both to satisfy and music enthusiast! |
