Somewhere between the sharp satire of Election and the rich human comedy of You Can Count On Me lies Juno, a sardonic but ultimately compassionate story of a pregnant teenage girl who wants to give her baby up for adoption. Social misfit Juno (Ellen Page, Hard Candy, X-Men: The Last Stand) protects herself with a caustic wit, but when she gets pregnant by her friend Paulie (Michael Cera, Superbad), Juno finds herself unwilling to terminate the pregnancy. When she chooses a couple who place a classified ad looking to adopt, Juno gets drawn further into their lives than she anticipated. But Juno is much more than its plot; the stylized dialogue (by screenwriter Diablo Cody) seems forced at first, but soon creates a richly textured world, greatly aided by superb performances by Page, Cera, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman as the prospective parents, and J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man) and Allison Janney as Juno's father and stepmother. Director Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking) deftly keeps the movie from slipping into easy, shallow sarcasm or foundering in sentimentality. The result is smarter and funnier than you might expect from the subject matter, and warmer and more touching than you might expect from the cocky attitude. Page's performance is deceptively simple; she never asks the audience to love her, yet she effortlessly carries a movie in which she's in almost every scene. That's star power. --Bret Fetzer

Emily Perkins is captivating as the quirky Juno2009-01-105 / 5
Emily Perkins is positively captivating as the quirky pregnant teen, Juno (or "June Bug"), in this off-beat and somewhat tragic comedy. I enjoyed watching her screen tests in the special features almost as much as seeing the same scenes in this delightful movie.

The simple music, mostly singers accompanied by one or two adequate guitars, has an edge that makes perfect sense once you've seen the movie all the way to the end.

There's a lot of subtle social commentary among the laughs of this film that I'm sure I'll see several more times.

This film stinks and I'll tell you why:

It stinks because I personally did not like it.
    Napolean Dynamite it's not2009-01-083 / 5
With the opening sequence, I thought I was in for a very creative film akin to "Napolean Dynamite, " but I was so wrong. Though the film was not long, I felt it drag and assumed I had missed something critical perhaps while putting my hand into the popcorn or jordan almonds which I'd prepared in advance. Every aspect of the script seemed to be contrived and the language grew thin with Juno's quips becoming boring after awhile. The tension never actually climaxed and I was more entertained by the music than the story. In a nutshell, this movie is far from a classic and weak in the entertainment. I prefer my films to be more full bodied than light unless the characters or story can carry them to fruition as entertainment.
    never listen 2009-01-061 / 5
to reviews from others. A couple people told me about what a 'smart' movie this was. It was a great disappointment after all the mimicking of critics. I laughed once and I cringed several times due to the dialogue which was silly over the top computer slang which I'm sure is what will soon come to pass.(lol whatever that stands for.)Every character was the same and it was amateurish overall. The plot was decent but it's not like it took a great amount of originality since she admitted she cribbed it from ghost world. It's not like this woman actually went to the trouble to study films. It's a hole in one first shot from an amateur. Awful.

This movie was hilarious, I could not stop laughing even after watching it the third time. I highly recommend to those that are sarcastic because the main character is just so funny and great.
